    Title:
What happened to the links to the Bing events map?
    Summary:
I can no longer click links to the pinnable Bing events map from a person's events
    Content:

I can no longer link from Place names in events on a person's life summary page to the interactive Bing map that pins them and shows where they were born, married, residing and such.  What happened?  The place names are just showing up now as plain black type rather than a clickable link to the map.  Please tell me this is temporary!

Same thing here, both with Firefox and Chrome, no links to the map work at all.

However, I'm not terribly concerned just yet.  Every day of the year, something on Ancestry doesn't work. Usually you just have to wait a day or two and it gets back to normal.

But since it looks like it's two days now, a call to Customer Solutions at 1-800-262-3738 would be in order.

      Hello Jeff and Stacy,

Are either of you still experiencing "Bing Events Map" issue? Have you already run through this article? Please let us know how this turned out.

      Thank you,

I also have the issue, so it doesn't sound like our browsers when it hits several or more users at once when all had been well.

I am still having the same problem, and I use Safari 7.0.1 -- it sounds as if I'm not alone either with this glitch.

Still no go on either Firefox or Chrome, both latest versions, as are Java and Flash.

And if I hear "clear the cache" one more time, I am going to EXPLODE!!

Ancestry is the ONLY site I have ever seen with this "cache" problem.

      • Bill H

Yes!  I'm with you Jeff.  And just because it does clear some issues does not justify it. Cache can be controlled by the program if they so choose to do it, rather than put it back on the user.

I don't understand the guidance that support staff has to give that advice even when it is multiple users with different browsers suddenly having the problem. Logic would tell you that it is not an individual cache issue.

Any updates?  I still cannot link to the map.  How about the rest of you?

No links here either, whee did the map go?

    • Hannah L

      Hello all,

We have looked further in to this issue and have found that Bing Map links were discontinued. The feature was in beta and no longer offered on our site. We would encourage you to use another site like the maps section of Bing or Google if you wish to continue using a feature like this.

      Thank you,

Another example of poor communication by Ancestry and how the company is falling apart when it comes to customer care!

Most companies inform their paying subscribers when some feature is being discontinued.

      Where will it end!?

      Bill

    • Stacy Nguyen

How long can a feature possibly be in beta?!  I've been on Ancestry for YEARS and don't remember the map ever not being there.  It  is a USEFUL feature, bring it back!  We can't link our events pages to maps outside of Ancestry, we can't mark births, deaths, etc. on another site outside of Ancestry.  What gives?

And as Bill stated, most companies inform their paying subscribers when some feature is being discontinued.  This just disappeared without a peep.  Pathetic.

    • Jeff Zupan

And it's taken THREE WEEKS for this to be "looked into" without anybody being told anything????

This company is so grossly mismanaged that it's really getting disgusting.

I'm not one to make flippant "threats" and would not give up on something useful, but after 12+ years I may start "packing my bags" for the exit. I've got 10 months left on this World subscription and will make the most of it. Hopefully, I will be winding up the research for my next book and can take a long time away to write.

      Bill

      PS:

I don't even use this particular feature, but the entire mismanagement is one more straw in a continuing collapse that is going to break the camel's back.

      Hello all,

We understand your frustration in this matter and are sorry for the inconvenience the discontinuing of this feature may cause. I want you all to know, we looked in to this issue as soon as we discovered that it was happening. Unfortunately, we did not get the information of this feature being discontinued until this week. This may be due to a phasing out of the feature. However, I would encourage you all to submit your feedback in this matter.

      Thank you,

        Hannah,

It isn't the fault of you or any of the moderators, but the lack of communication about something that management should recognize will an impact on users. It goes well beyond the fact that the feature was removed... it is the disregard for users/paying customers by not communicating the intent to remove it. Then it becomes more workload on you to chase it down rather than being provided a list of changes being made across products so you can respond to our queries more timely.

If you folks have meetings or any other means I would be screaming to management to do a better job of concern for paying customers.

        Bill

I am flabbergasted.  The development people shut off a useful, helpful feature (that nobody ever told us was "beta" in the first place) over three weeks ago and DIDN'T TELL ANYBODY??????

      Totally unbelievable.

    • jen cannon

YES, Please, enable the maps again.  I have been trying to figure out why this wasn't working, I guess it's because you took it away????

      PLEASE GIVE THIS FEATURE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
