Just got an update from the FTM team, The build number is 1239 only for 64-bit installations.  For anyone running the 32-bit version of Family Tree Maker, the build will be 239.

If you are still having problems after installing the patch, please call 1-800-262-3787.

      Thank you!

Updated FTM 2014 with the patch and I am now experiencing the sync error problem--didn't have it before the patch!  Same as what everyone has been saying--error occurred during analyzing changes in FTM.  I have a 64-bit installation.   What now???

        • Carol Dunkleberger

I  sent mine back and requesting Full refund. To many headaches. Really disgusted with this product. Running windows 7 64 bit and the disk would not even load on Auto. Tried to do a manual setup and it locked up my computer after sitting there spining for ten minutes. Tried two computers and same thing on both. This FTM 2014 should have NEVER been released to the public until a good bit of all the problems had been resolved.

Do yourself a favor and go back to 2012.

          Hello Dave,

We have escalated your comment and someone should be in contact with you to help with your treesync issue.

          Thank you,

Is there any information about what additions, changes, or fixed are included in this patch? Simply identifying that a patch exists is not very helpful.

Do you know what kind of fixes it has. Before I send mine back would like to know if it fixes the Following.

Tree does not sync fully or sync media.

When you clik on the media button on software it knocks you off and closes software giving and error.

Also had to do a manual install as it does not load automatically.

      Hi Denise.

Great question. I have attached the Program Update sheet here. It also contains information on how to download the patch.

The URLs inside the document to manually download and install the patch are not valid.  They give file not found (404) errors.

        1.     The links to the patches are below.  One may download either the .exe or .zip file based on the preferred method of choice.

Download the 32-bit patch here, (.zip) or (.exe)

Download the 64-bit patch here, (.zip) or (.exe)

Just back from a 'shopping expedition' to a nearby military base (retired from the Army in 1983 and again in 2009 from Silicon Valley's computer software industry as a lead technical writer) and found your response Carol. Discounting the 'how to' install and check information in the document you attached, I found the following update data:

"It is important that this update be run.  It contains the following important improvements to the Family Tree Maker 2014 product:

        • TreeSync improvements
        • General bug fixes"

Sorry Carol, but what you have provided is NO information to the user. What 'TreeSync improvements" and what "General bug fixes". As I wrote above, I spent nearly 30 years in the technical end of the computer software industry so have a very good idea of what information customers need. These two items are really an insult to FTM customers. How about providing some real information?

I think you meant CARAL the Online Community Manager. NOT CAROL, cause Carol is having the same issues and questions as everyone else.

I totally agree.  This information was 99% about how to download an update (which contains a link that is broken).  It should have been 80% about what the update does, i.e. what are the changes, enhancements, or fixes and how do they now work.

I couldn't find a valid working link and did not receive a notice when opening FTM that an update was available.

            Hello Valued Member Banks,

Cara did not provide a link for the update, another member did, and there is no link for our update at this time. As Cara stated in her post, you can go to the "Help" option once in Family Tree Maker, then select "Check for updates". At that point a box will pop up letting you know there is an "Update Available". You can then follow the "Install Wizard".

            Thank you,

            Hannah L

          Hello Denise,

This is the information we are provided with to release. The general bug fix was for the TreeSync error and issues with the TreeSync not functioning. If you wish for more information in future releases or patches, please click here to provide your feedback.

          Thank you,

      Cara,

Were there changes made in Ancestry.com to facilitate or coordinate with the changes to FTM?

    • Valued Member Banks

Could someone in Support please explain or post an article on how the path works for media in FTM2014?  I have moved to a new computer and a new install of 2014 and I'm not sure sure my media is correct.  It is located in two different directories for two different family trees that were moved over in different manners.  Quite frankly I am very concerned and don't want to proceed with updating and working on my tree and until I understand better where the media is supposed to be located.

This seems like such a simple question. I can't believe I am asking it.  But, just try to find any directions on this in the user manual or online.  I "let FTM find my media" and frankly don't trust where it put it.

Please help.  Just some simple instructions please on file locations/path.

        Hello Valued Member Banks,

If you go to "My Documents" then find the "Family Tree Maker" file (folder), you should see a file with your Tree name, then media. For example: Valued Member Banks Tree Media.

        Thank you,

        Hannah L

It is October 13th and I just installed the patch to FTM 2014, but it made no difference.  I am still getting the same error message that I have been getting for a month. Checked the Version and it is running 22.0.01239. Have I missed a step somewhere?  Thank you.

Same here. Installed the FTM 2014 patch. I got one good sync out of it. The second sync attempt a few hours later failed and never succeeded again. Platform: Windows 7 64-bit.  Lots of memory, disk-space, internet bandwidth and processor resources available.  Why do I suspect this patch wasn't tested any better than the original FTM 2014 release?

        • Hannah L

          Hello David,

What version of Family Tree Maker do you now have after the patch? Also, have you tried unliniing and relinking since the patch?

          Thank you,

          Hannah L

        Hello Glenda,

Do you have Windows 7 or 8, and is it a 64 bit or 32 bit? Also, did you try unlinking and relinking the tree after the update?

        Thank you,
